Dr. Emille Davie Lawrence earned her B.S. in mathematics from Spelman College and her Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Georgia where her dissertation was in the field of braid groups. She has also been a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara and an assistant professor at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Her current research focuses on topological properties of spatial graphs. She is involved in several national programs aimed at broadening participation in the mathematical sciences, such as the Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education (EDGE) summer program for women entering graduate study. Emille enjoys speaking about mathematics to anyone who will listen and believes strongly that mathematics is accessible to everyone–not just those who fit a certain perception. She has two happy children and a supportive husband who make her life golden.
